What is the MEND Programme?

The MEND Programme is a fun course for families with children aged 7 to 13 whose weight is above the healthy range for their age and height. We at Time 4 Sport currently work alongside the NHS to manage and deliver the M.E.N.D Programme in a variety of areas across Staffordshire.

The Programme helps children and families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives. It was developed by child health experts and research shows it really works. With the support of their parents or carers, children learn how to improve their health, fitness and the way they feel about their bodies.

What happens on the MEND Programme?

The Programme consists of 18 sessions (twice a week for 2 hours/session).

Programme highlights include:

  • Weekly games, activities and swimming for kids.
  • Learning that being active can be a lot of fun!
  • Fun, interactive discussions that will teach you easy, effective ways to improve your child’s behaviour and improve his/her self-confidence.
  • Practical demonstrations, games and tips about healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes.
  • There is even a fun supermarket tour and a chance to try delicious new foods!

There is no cost to attend the programme but we will need to assess whether the child qualifies based on their age, weight and health.

The T4S MEND Leaders have worked really hard to deliver a quality programme that has produced fantastic results. I was pleased to see how well they have engaged with parents and children and motivated and supported them through the process of change. What has impressed me most is how much happier and more confident the families appear.

Margaret (Mum) who particpated in a local MEND programme:
Before the MEND programme, Emma would not eat fruit or veg, but now she enjoys eating lots of healthy foods. She is a lot more active now and is learning a lot about fitness.”

Ashley (aged 9) loved the MEND programme:
I will definitely keep it up. I do four or five hours of exercise a week. It's been fun.
