Our team is driven to carrying out its aims which are to increase participation in PE/Sport and to educate the local community to live a healthy lifestyle.
The Story So Far
I have always been passionate about sport. From an early age I always took part in sport at a competitive level, with my main sports being football and cricket. I played for Stoke City Academy at schoolboy level and was a professional cricketer as a teen. Once I realised I wasn’t quite able to make either sport full time as a professional, I still wanted to ensure sport was part of my career, so becoming a sports coach was a natural path.
During my time at Staffordshire University and after picking up a number of coaching badges in my teens, I had the drive to develop my coaching skills furthermore and made the decision to travel to United States and coach there for 4 months. It was an amazing experience; it provided me with the opportunity to travel around the West Coast of America, meeting inspirational people whilst coaching sports I love. After an incredible summer, it was back to university and being in my final year meant it was time to make decisions that would ultimately shape my career and future. Should I follow my university courses natural path and become a PE teacher or should I set up a sports/healthy lifestyle company
Apart from already picking up a number of coaching qualifications, coaching regularly in primary schools, clubs and also visiting the US to coach while at university. I took part in a number of placement hours at a local high school and for a few of those hours I was sent out to a local primary school to teach PE curriculum sessions to the children. This happened for a couple of weeks and went well. In the third or fourth week I arrived at the school a little earlier than normal and the class teacher was trying to deliver the same session I taught the week before to his group, but the quality wasn’t there and the children didn’t seem to enjoy or benefit from the session. This made me think that there was a need for an innovative sports coaching company that provided quality sports/healthy lifestyle services. I love sport and thought if children weren’t enjoying sport and developing skills at a young age they weren’t going to enjoy or want to take part later on in life.
This is when I decided to go down the sports/healthy lifestyle company route rather than PE teaching because I thought as a company we could create a bigger impact in increasing participation in PE/Sport.
After a lot of research, business planning, hard work, luck and support from family and friends I was accepted onto Staffordshire University’s Enterprise Fellow Scheme. A scheme for University Graduates that helps fund, train and generally support innovative start-up companies. This is when Time 4 Sport was born (credit goes to my Dad for the name) and an idea turned into a super little company.
Since 2007 when Time 4 Sport was formed, we have developed an extremely experienced, innovative and hard-working team that provides four main services, which are 1 School Services, 2 Healthy Lifestyle Programmes, 3 Holiday Camps and 4 Community Sessions. Our team is driven to carrying out its aims which are to increase participation in PE/Sport and to educate the local community to live a healthy lifestyle.
We at Time 4 Sport are extremely proud to have provided our now award winnings services to the London 2012 Olympic Games and have continued to provide our quality services to a number of schools across Staffordshire, Staffordshire Public Health, Stoke on Trent Public Health, Stoke on Trent City Council, Staffordshire University, Keele University and local community groups/clubs.
I wanted to provide a brief background to convey to people that Time 4 Sport was developed through hard work, passion and teamwork. We are not a franchise developed to chase the increase in government money for PE/Sport, but are a Staffordshire born organisation whose aims are to increase participation in PE/Sport and to educate the local community to live a healthy lifestyle. Inspiring the next generation to be the best they can be through PE/Sport.
